I use multiple hosting services for different applications and to diversify where my sites are held. One of the services I use and have used for many years is Hostgator. I have heard mixed things about HostGator but my experiences have been positive.
Yesterday I was futzing around with a script on one of my Hosthator accounts. I ran a rather large MySQL query and the whole site froze up. Within 30 seconds my phone rang and it was HostGator. They called to inform me of the problem and told me that the script had eaten up most of the servers processing power. I told them I would fix the issue and they reinstated the database.
Although I should have never let a script run rampant and get out of control (I suck at programming), its pretty awesome to know that there is a company watching their servers like a hawk. Keep up the good work HostGator.
I love hostgator also, they’re support is amazing and I have yet to have any issues with them.
@Bryn – Word. Overall they are a great company. They are good for some things and not for others. For instance I wouldnt necessarily trust your PPC traffic to a shared server with some idiot on it (like me) who has a script go crazy and take the whole server out. Then again Hostgator has dedicated boxes too, ive just never tried them for that.
Fuck hostgator. Yesterday my p202 script stopped working because of mod_security issues or some shit… lost half a days revenue which was like $12, but still. Lesson learned, don’t put your important shit on shared hosting.
@PPC – Like i said they have good points and bad. Move your prosper to a dedi on the double 🙂
