This Ad Engage test has proven similar conversion rates as the other tests. The ad has ran on a similar mix of sites and is still not profitable. To make this profitable I have a few options:
1) Get cheaper clicks
2) Get a better payout
3) Target only the sites that are converting to leads.
I am going to work on getting a better payout and targeting the sites that are converting to leads. I plan on doing 2 tests. I can’t get a better payout on the offer that I’m running. What I will do is switch offers to another offer I know converts, pays out $2 more and converts a bit better. Then I will see if that turns the campaign profitable. I will also take the current offer and place it on the sites on the AdEngage network that I found to be profitable during my other tests. Assuming the site owners take my ads, I will report back as to whether that is a profitable approach.
Since a lot of ad networks are essentially a black box when you do a run of network buy, Ive decided to show you some of the sites that I’ve gotten as referrers during my tests. I hope this will help you better analyze the quality of the sites on the AdEngage network:

As I suspected, the results were not consistent. My conversion rate was way lower. then case study #2. Even with a .50 cent payout bump, I did not turn a profit on this test. Total loss was $139.13. One thing I am finding about these Ad Engage tests is that certain sites on the network perform a whole lot better then others. Since I track everything, I can see which sites these are and possibly buy just those sites through Ad Engage. The only issue with this is that by buying individual sites, you can not target a specific countries traffic only. This means you may be wasting a rather large portion of the clicks you buy to traffic that is untargeted to your offer. I am not done with Ad Engage and will post the results of any other tests I decide to do.

This test was not too bad for early experimentation. I didn’t lose money which is always a positive thing. I also didn’t make much money on a $158 spend. Margins are definetly a lot tighter on Ad Engage then on a lot of other traffic sources I have used. My explanation for this is that since it’s a ‘content network’ type ad network with very little targeting, you are getting a mix of complete junk clicks and OK quality clicks. At 0.11 cents street rate the traffic is priced on the high side. I am going to do another test to see if the results are consistent. My guess is that it’s going to be completely inconsistent because of the variety of sites the ad will be placed on. We shall see.

Everyone has their favorite communication tools online. One of mine is called Digsby. Digsby is a free multi protocol instant messaging client. It has a lot of cool features including the ability to automatically check your mail accounts and tell you when new mail arrives. This makes Digsby an all in one communication client because it can manage my email and IM. Another cool thing that it does is creates a Digsby account for you so that no matter where you sign onto your AIM accounts, all of your settings and buddies are synced.
Much Needed Feature Request
I get a lot of IM’s. I have a TON of buddies on my list. Remembering 100′s of peoples handles gets ridiculous and becomes impossible. The ability to give an alias to each buddy is helpful in remembering who the heck they are but I need more. I need the ability to add a note about each buddy. This way I can check the note when I get an IM from them and see how I know them and who they are. Otherwise I need to ask them to remind me how they know me, which comes off as pretty unprofessional.
Digsby, please add this feature.

I spent most of this weekend at the hospital staying with my grandfather who is having some health problems. I am the kind of guy who has a hard time staying in one place for extended periods of time so I tend to wander. It was about 3pm and I decided to go downstairs and outside to make some phone calls and get some air. I walk outside, turn around, and see a very old lady getting out of a van. The lady then proceeds to fall out of the van and hit her head on the ground. Blood was everywhere. I wasn’t about to touch her as I am no medical professional so I run inside to the main desk and say “Call a doctor or get a stretcher, an old lady fell out of her van, hit her head on the ground and she’s bleeding everywhere.” The receptionest replies “I’ll call security.” I insist to the receptionist “She Doesn’t Need Security She Needs A Doctor.” The receptionist didn’t really seem to care at all that there is a lady laying outside bleeding in the street outside the hospital.
I run back out to make sure she’s ok. I talk to the ladies daughter to see if there is anything I can do while the daughter sits in the street holding her mothers bleeding head. About 5 minutes later a rather portley and very lazy looking security guard mozies on over and the first thing he says is “We are going to need a doctor.” He calls the doctor and a bunch of nurses and doctors come out and tell the security guard to get a stretcher. The security guard mozies over to the emergency room (honestly seemed like he was going as slowly as he possibly could) to get a stretcher. Meanwhile all of these doctors and nurses just stand around talking. I felt like yelling out “THIS LADY IS LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH HER HEAD BLEEDING ALL OVER THE STREET. DO SOMETHING. HELP HER!” Another 7 or 8 minutes later you see the security guard walking back slowly with the stretcher. He even took his cell out to check the time while he was pushing it. The doctors and nurses pick the lady up, put her on the stretcher and take her off to the ER.
—————————-
There really is no ending to that story being that I don’t know the lady. I was just astounded at how little care was given to an elderly lady, laying in the street and bleeding AT A HOSPITAL. Myself and the ladies daughter seemed to be the only ones who cared. It really makes you think about the people that you leave in charge of your health in emergency situations. What is the incentive for them to care about you and make sure that YOUR best interest comes first?
Food For Thought.
