WTF? Tracking202 Has Been Re-Acquired By Tracking202

In case you haven’t seen it, the following email went out this morning

We have an important announcement to make today. I’m not entirely sure how to bring about this news so I am going to do my best and just come out with it. As many of you may know, Tracking202 was acquired by another company in our space known as Bloosky Interactive last November. However since then, many things have changed. A lot of things happened and as some of you may or may not know, I was no longer part of this company for the past few months. This has all changed now.

Today, I’m pleased to announced that the original founders of Tracking202 have undone the acquisition and Tracking202 is no longer a Bloosky Interactive company! As of earlier this week, we completed a deal with Bloosky to get Tracking202 back. Â I and a few members of the original Tracking202 team will be heading up the direction of the company moving forward.

We hope to continue innovating in our industry which is in need of great change more than ever. A lot has happened recently both with Tracking202, the affiliate industry and performance marketing space as a whole. We hope to change all of that for the better. We’re bringing back the original Tracking202 culture that many of you have grown to know and fallen in love with. Â We are going to do our best to make Tracking202 even better starting by redoing everything that Tracking202 is currently.

We are going to be making some fairly large changes to Tracking202, some of which we’ve already began doing. One of the first things we will be doing is discontinuing Tracking202 Pro soon because we feel there are better opportunities for our company to tackle. We will be posting more and more updates on what’s to come so please feel free to stop by our blog for further future updates.

We know we have a lot of work to do ahead of us and we look forward to making things happen for the community and the industry as a whole with these new changes. We do appreciate all of the support you guys have given us throughout the years and we look forward to working with you guys again.

Hello again,
Wes

It seems like a pretty bizarre move and i’m sure there is an interesting story behind it.  I wonder how the community support will be behind the re-acquisition.  I love Wes & Steven as people but personally I think they are going to have a hard time earning trust back towards 202 within the affiliate community.

What are your thoughts?

  1. As a consumer I am happy to see it, though as a business decision I don’t understand the reason behind it. Maybe Wes et al. were subject to a non-compete agreement for 24 mos post acquisition by Bloosky and would have been unable to launch a new competitor? Maybe T202 already has brand recognition and authority? In the last 6-12 mos I have heard of more affiliates custom coding tracking software than in all the previous years before that, and I’m certain that Bloosky’s acquisition of T202 has a lot to do with it. Now that they have it though, there is no compelling reason for them to abandon it even if Wes is back in charge.

But, as I began, I am happy to see it. No one was happy with the Bloosky acquisition except Bloosky.

  2. I thought affiliate marketing is dead?

Let’s see if they start charging for their products and services.

  3. After Bloosky canceled my account this week (along with several others who were not pushing a lot of traffic their way currently) I could smell the blood in the water. I’m glad Wes (and the team?) are back in control of everything 202 and look forward to what the future holds for them and us as a part of it.

As for Bevo Media, they are just now starting to send out beta invites after a soft launch period of almost 6 months. I can’t say this strikes me as a good sign or a solid start. To take over 202’s market position you are going to have to run a tight and quick ‘software development’ ship and have a brilliant PR campaign running in parallel. First mover advantage is very expensive and difficult to counter…

  4. Very interesting…I am with Yousif and would like some transparency on the subject. Bevo Media needs to make BIG moves now, from what I have seen, he is light years ahead already. I am sure Wes and Steven can win back the 202 community but like any bad relationship it will take some time.

  5. […] Tracking202 Back in Wes' Hands! – Rather than make a post about T202 being back in Wes' hands, Adhustler did a great job of the recap. What do you think this will mean for T202? […]

  6. Great to hear i hope wes and the 202 team can make a strong comeback

  7. When I first heard about Tracking202 being sold everyone seemed to think it was a good thing. This time it seems that it is pretty mixed.

As far as me, I will just sit back and see what happens.
