Summary: This test pissed me off because SocialMedia.com over-served my ads.  I set a maximum budget of $10 and they served three times that.  535 clicks and 1 conversion is absolutely pitiful (0.002% conversion rate).  My click through rate was super strong and I used a very direct add, telling the clicker about the offer before they got there.  I am pretty surprised that this did not convert better.  I’m starting to wonder if a lot of the clicks that come through socialmedia.com are just accidental clicks from people playing around with apps.  It’s hard to believe that out of 535 legit clickers who READ the ad, only 1 would convert.  The traffic QUALITY on socialmedia.com is definitely less then that of a search engine but it must work because if it didn’t, no one would use it.  I only have another test or two coming in this batch of socialmedia.com tests.  If I decide to do another batch down the line I will try different types of offers.  I got a little stuck on these mobile offers because I wanted to see one work.  That is all for now.

  1. Start tracking your ad refferers. You’ll notice that they sometimes come from completely different ads.

Bitch at SM about your traffic quality. Interestingly it will suddenly increase. 😉 Trust me.

That’s interesting. Do you have any hard data on this? Since its been all direct linking I haven’t tracked referrers. Maybe I will do a test where i use a redirect and see whats going on.

  3. Yeah, well the thing is my traffic suddenly got better after bitching to them like 3 times? Idk why, it just did. I really think most SM clicks originate from either kiddies or some bots that won’t make you any money.

Also every time I tracked down my refferers I seemed to see a different ad than mine for 2 out of 3 times. Strange..

Interesting site, I liek how you do tests and report them. SocialMedia has been shitty for me as well. Lots of traffic but …..
