@Vinny - LOL @ your car dealer story. Car dealers generally fall into 3 categories:

1) The ones that are completely full of crap and just trying to swindle a killer deal for themselves.
2) The ones that have no idea what they are talking about.
3) Both

And TRUST me, I have a lot of experience with car dealers.

To answer your question NO DEALER is paying $2/unqualified lead and almost none are going to be paying $16 with a credit check. The going price for a lead that includes Name, Phone Number & Email Address is $20-$25 depending on volume from providers like Edmunds.com, AutoUSA.com, KBB.com etc.

Where this gets really funny is that each of the lead providers are selling the same lead to 4-5 dealers. Hence the dealer is paying $20-$25 for a lead thats been sold 4-5 times over and are now in a price war with the other dealers that have the lead.

If you have more questions let me know. I have the answers :)

Looking forward to this. I've done various work on the local level. Mainly the $100k/200k per year ideas from WF. Read Shoemoney's post and called a few car dealers on a whim. Don't know if they were trying to take me for a ride, but the two that would talk price on the phone told me they pay $2 per unqualified lead. And a qualified lead, with completed credit check, was $16. I have no idea what auto leads go for, especially not direct. Basically, too much IDK for my liking. Will have to do more research.

Is average cost per lead in each vertical something you're going to include in your posts?

Looking forward to it. Anderson Free Press (http://www.andersonfreepress.net) is one of my bigger regional news sites I've got going. I'm monetizing it, but not as well as I could be perhaps.

Cheers,
